La Fleche Thread ~ PIC of my Black La Fleche

Where are your birds from, Ohbigmama?..................................................................chrisf

And....cockerel! PGP, your birds are looking just grand. Wish we could have some of that over here.

Ask me this fall. I'm getting eggs next week and planning on breeding them for meat production. All the older books on the breed mention the high quality of their meat, and newer publications refer to them as purely ornamental, so I hope their finer points as meatbirds has not been bred out of them in recent years. Anybody else know?

Sorry I didn't get the email that the thread was updated.

They birds in the photo are my friends, she bought them as chicks from someone else, I am sure she told me where his came from I believe it was a hatchery Stromberg's?? I can find out. I did look at their site once and they offer SQ lines of Lafleche for $10 a chick. I am still really tempted......

All the eggs were ruined when my incubator spiked. I keep it out in the barn and while it is usually 100% reliable for holding temp, it failed when the wonderful Ohio weather went from 20 degrees in the a.m. to 50 by noon. It was my fault I got out there too late it was up to 104*. I hoped they would make it but the only thing that came out of that hatch was the Serama.

I am going to try again, this time she is going to hatch them for me.

I wonder too. I heard the same things about French Marans. I have eaten several of them and I know there is a difference but I really prefer EE roos!
