La Fleche Thread ~ PIC of my Black La Fleche

They should be fine unless the shell cracks from freezing.

I like this experiment!

Tis has been my experience. Last year I "experimented" too, or rather I couldn't get home in time to check the eggs frequently. I often collected eggs in the late afternoon that I new had been subjected to some pretty intense cold, and, as long as they weren't broken, they did, indeed, hatch with high level of viability.

Well, after gauging my young ones at one week I can say I am happy so far. All of the chicks are still healthy. Even the runty one with the nub toe is fine. Only problem I am seeing is that some of their toes are curling post hatch. However, the ones that have started to curl seemed to have stopped. They will be culled along with the one that has the nub. Just need to advertise them locally or dress them out when they get to a decent weight.

A couple have really taken off. They are still smaller than the Buckeyes, which I expected. But do have the appetites the Buckeyes have. So that is very promising.

The ones that hatched this weekend are doing fine, only lost the two the first day and the others seem good to go.

I posted this elsewhere but thought I would share in this thread as well. I had one chick which came with red in the back. To my knowledge the only additional blood these birds have seen is that Minorca was reintroduced into one side. The females only way of mating with a Buckeye would have been AI(and I am not sure they would have looked like this anyway). So it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Have heard from both Chris and Joe that it could be sign of gold leakage which is used to enhance female plumage. Time will tell but I don't want to cull this one just yet.

Hey everyone,

I'm really wanting to get some La Fleche eggs. Any ideas this late in the season? I want to help preserve this breed. Thanks!

I would really like to buy some la flèche chicks. Do you have any for sale or know of a breeder. Thank you

Chris McCary in Alabama is working with them. http://www.americanbuckeyepoultryclub.com/Breeders.html Has his email listed. He is in Helfin(Close to Atlanta).

Unfortunately I ended up deciding I did not have the time or capacity to handle them along with my Buckeyes, for now. So Chris got 3 of my adult birds. I did give all of my young birds to a family friend and may get some back from them in the future.

I am interested in purchasing standard black La Flèche chicks or hatching eggs for the spring or summer (whichever winds up being available first). I would prefer a small order and to keep it local to North Texas, but if I can find someone willing to ship a smaller order of chicks/eggs, I would be VERY interested. So far my search has been fruitless.
