wow, glad to see the interest in la fleche. i ordered mine out of curiosity..to see if they would meet my small farm needs. i found that i like them very much. they are unique, not much trouble at all and have had no probs around my kids. so ive been hatching them this year, they arent as hardy as chicks as my other birds, but ive raised them with poults succesfully.
i wanted to add stock from ideal, but thats not gonna happen i see. well, good luck with them, they r worth it

I finally found someone that has them but no chicks are available right now. She had just bought hers and said she would let me know when they start laying atleast it is a step in the right direction. I also found a bantam trio but I want standards plus the price was way to steep $150 for the trio! Not even show quality.....

I am hoping to find some at one of the shows/swaps in the next month.

What/Who is "Ideal"?

For those of you that have them are they a docile or mean breed?

I am going to search the Ohio national show too, I know there are some breeders that show there I saw it on the site......

so my quest continues.

ideal is ideal hatchery out of texas. mine are not "lap" chickens but are not mean at all. they r not scittish like leghorns but mine keep a quiet distance. my roo growls alot and sometimes gives the hens a tussel, but i like them

Thanks for answering my questions I read back and figured out that "Ideal" was Ideal Poultry. I won't get chicks that far away from me ever again...bad experience. I try to stick to a one day radius now on shipped birds. I am also over the hatchery days, I want to start with SQ lines from now on. I know it sounds snotty but I have put a lot of money into birds that fell way short when I could have just put the money out and started with better.

Has anyone ever caponized before? I thought about practicing on some cornish x this year. I have processed enough to know the general area and I have extensive directions on how to do it. However, I would love to be able to watch it done first or at least see detailed photos as it is not at all like castrating a horse, sheep, or goat which is all I have done or assisted with. if u find stock not from ideal poultry i wud like to know about it! i started w/their stock and am mass breeding at the moment so i can pick the best to breed from. i would like to find a quality roo from someone for next generation breeding. but i dont have my hopes up

So, I am absolutely new to this breed, though I've had chickens for years.

I hatched 5 eBay La Fleche eggs, expecting them to be all black, but they are not. They are two weeks old today. They are bigger than the 'dumb blonde'....the little NN girl in the left hand corner....the largest weighing 135g.

They look sort of right, bump on the nose, the little darkest one is already showing a two pronged little comb.

Please tell me if they look like the 'real deal' and what I am to expect from them.

If they are 'mongrels' I won't be upset, I've got plenty of them!

Thank you, I hope they do then turn all black eventually.

They certainly seem very active and healthy at present.
