Finally, Valhalla stopped, motioning for Jack to do the same. "Stay here" He ordered, disappearing behind a set of large pine trees. He was gone a long while and Jack began to wonder if he would come back at all. Just when Jack thought his paws were frozen solid, Valhalla's large form reappeared through the trees, with a much smaller, dainty white she-fox trailing behind. Kate.
"What do you want, Jack?" She questioned coldly, stopping in front of him, her eyes like green chips of the coldest ice.
"I owe you an explanation..." He began hesitantly, glancing back at Vahalla who liked like he wanted to rip Jack to pieces. Personally, Jack didn't blame him.
"An explanation?" She narrowed her eyes to slits "The time for explanations has long past Jack"
"Just liste---" He tried to plead, but Kate cut him off.
"No Jack" She hissed venonously, baring her teeth at him "You listen. You think an explanation will make everything all better? After you left me to die? After you made me watch you leave through that door, never to return again? You are stupider then even I thought!"
"If I could do it again, I would never have left you" He said hoarsely, his ears and tail drooping.
"But you can't, Jack" She whispered, her voice suddenly quiet and grief striken "I loved you, Jack. I trusted you. And you left me there, to die. For the vultures to pick my bones clean like carrion." After a moments pause, she spoke again, "I will never forgive you Jack, I just can't. So please, just leave me alone." She turned away from him and headed back up the slope, her pawsteps heavy and slow.
Jack's throat tightened so tight he could hardly breath and hot, wet tears formed in his eyes "I'm sorry" He choked out, his voice raw with unimaginable grief and pain "I'm so sorry..."
