Lame Chicken

None of those symptoms...

We have wormed her with Wazine 17 and will be giving her the follow up wormers soon.
She still eats medicated feed

If it is emaciation or a leg injury, how long can it take her to walk again? If there is no improvement after a month is this long enough to conclude she won't be getting better...?

EDIT: Some times it seems like she might be wheezing a little bit, can't be sure... what does it mean?

Can anyone else help? When would it be time to put her to sleep? After a month, is it long enough to conclude she won't be getting better? So far she is not improving or declining...
Please help Pepper!

If the bootom of the foot has a blackish spot and it is a little swoolen, the limping chicken probably has bumblefoot which won't go away unless a little surgery is done. It is simple to fix though by yourself. Most of the directions could be found on this same site.

Some respiratory diseases also have wasting away and limb atrophy as part of the symptoms, such as MG, MS, etc... but if she doesn't seem to have a cold that wouldn't fit well. Mareks tends to affect only one leg with gradual loss of use of one side of the body till the neck is affected, it is a type of Chicken cancer almost. Then there are vitamin defs..... I use vitamin E, it seems to be very helpful in wry neck and limb/back injury's. If it has been a month, with no change or improvement... I'd have to say her prognosis is not looking good. If she is suffering or beyond hope than the most humane thing would be to let her go. If she is not suffering and you can care for a handicapped animal... that is your choice. You could make a chicken chair etc... But if she is wasting away, and all worming meds and other things have been tried, then it doesn't look good, sorry to say. You can have your local State Dept of Ag take a mouth swab to test for MG/MS etc... often at very little expense. If you get NPIP testing, here it is free, they often will test if you ask them. That may give you an idea. Some MG & MS problems are helped with a product called Denagard.... I wish I could help more... it gets frustrating, I know...

She's been the same, not getting worse, but not getting better. It seems like she is able to keep her balance better than she could a while back

However, she is still very emaciated... her breast bone and her keel are really prominent with practically no meat around them

Hope your worming goes well

And I will try soaking her feet in warm epsom salt water today

I hope it does something!
