Every morning I let my Pekin Ducks and Chickens out to run around and eat bugs and plants. This afternoon while giving them pieces of tomato, I noticed one of my female ducks was limping up to me. She doesn't have a wound. She's not bleeding. Nothing seems broken or even swollen. She just limps when she moves around and stands like a crane with her right foot up in the air when she's stationary.

I don't want her walking anymore than she has to, so I put all the ducks back in their pen. I thought I would keep them in their pen for a few days and watch her to see if rest is making a difference. If that doesn't work I thought I would put her in a separate smaller pen by herself. I don't want to separate her from her friends if I don't have to. They're very close and I think that would make her nervous.

I know NOTHING about Duck Health so if anyone has a suggestion or course of action, please let me know.

I have had that happen to me before. It may not be swollen or look bad, but she might have twisted or injured a leg muscle. If you decide to superstate her give a friend to hang out with. Give her some protein and some electrolytes. Good luck!

I was thinking about extra protein. I forgot about the importance of electrolytes for a injured bird. Thanks for the advice.

Just an Update.on my lame duck. She's a little better, but she's still limping around. It's not too bad, just a slight limp. I'm still keeping the ducks penned up. I'm trying to give them treats and toys and things to do in their pen together. I'll wait a few more days and either put her in a smaller pen (I don't think she'll respond well to that) or just return to letting the ducks free range during the day and just keep an eye on her.
