Yeah, no. Dogs have about a 2 1/2 second attention span.

They know why I’m doing it after the fact. But I think they associate it with me catching them in the act. If I can shock them remotely, they ought to fear the chickens instead of me. I want them to think the chicken is causing it.

I just zapped one puppy that was going after a momma hen as I stood in the kitchen and watched out the window. He bucked, looked around confused, then ran up to the porch and stared at the door. He then ran down to the pond and hid a few minutes (the pond is where they run to get away from me when I’m disciplining them).

My educated guess is he associates the feeling of a shock with me sneaking up behind him with a cattle prod. When he felt the shock this time he was confused because he assumed I must have snuck up on him and couldn’t figure out where I was.

A few more times of this and I think he’ll get the message.

Took a month with my 6 year old st Bernard mix.

I got the chicks about an hour ago. Took the first one out to the broody, she started talking to it, hissed and swiped at me, and settled down, burbling happily. I got 5 under her, no problems, but when I took #6 out there she was frantically trying to corral her babies, who were running all over. I'll leave her for a while and see if she settles down. They're more active than other 3 day old chicks I've worked with.

I have them in a broody box out in the coop.

I can identify the Golden Kraienkoppe because they're yellow. All else is a mystery. Should be Black Breasted Red Kraienkoppe, mixed American Game and Range Sussex (Dorking-Sussex mix). I gave her all the black.

Only one is hanging out under the heater.

I gave her four more, and we'll see how she's doing in the morning. I think 10 is enough, although I might have mis-counted.

I'm not concerned about her rejecting the chicks, but the chicks might not bond.

Yes someone gave me 7 one week old CX and I gave them to one turkey and she didn't like one. So I took 3 and gave to another turkey. They were following the first couple weeks but now they are off on their own for the most part.

Mom is happy, the chicks are active, and the roosters are taking turns guarding them. She's still "nesting," so I won't open up the cage yet.

The others are in the small brooder and busily exploring their new space.
