Landrace/adaptive breeding discussion

That's a fancy ladder for your girls!🥰

(most ladders I see are, let's say, vintage, and definitely all wood)
If I had a wood ladder that would be better. Unfortunately all I have is sn old two piece ladder that's totally unsafe for humans. The birds can't really get a grip on it.

I used to drive to town on garbage day and pickup chicken usable ladders, tables, straw bale, pumpkins, leaves and whatnot.
After a while I had to quit dragging home junk 😂.
I now post that if people want to drop off Halloween pumpkins and bales. I still pick those up from repeat people who ask.

I still pick up leaves. The chickens will have to deal, otherwise.

I just have to tell someone or I’m going to explode! My feral hen is sitting on a clutch of (hopefully fertile) eggs! Not sure how this will turn out but 🤞

Two hens have moved into the rafters. Two are on the top of the ladder, including the one that still goes back to her old coop every night. I brought her over, put her down, and she immediately pushed past all the others, to much squawking.

Two from the big girls coop have joined them but haven't tried the ladder yet.

All my BA crosses are open air now.

So much for my wild chicken dreams—she gave up on the nest and went back to the coop for the first time in almost two months. I suspect she has been up there since the time between roosters and realized she was sitting on duds. Hard to say for sure but either way I left the eggs alone (if they were rotten I didn’t want to risk breaking them and if not I didn’t want to know). My black Hatch has started laying so hopefully next spring I will get some chicks out of this rooster and one of the games. My friends offered me another rooster and I’m tempted because the one they gave me is so great but I don’t want to mess with anything right now. If he doesn’t make it through the winter though at least I can replace him easily. Sure would have been nice to have him raising his replacement right now though!
