I hatched out some Langshan eggs on May 1. The parents are black and blue. Six of the 7 chicks were black and one was a nice dark silvery blue color. I assumed it was a blue chick. Then she feathered out. I can't find any pictures of a splash Langshan to compare the coloring. It's not the splotchy look I'm used to seeing in a splash (like the pics of the silkies in the splash silkie thread), but it's not a nice clean white either. Sort of a dirty white. So is she a splash?

She doesn't look splash to me, but not quite blue either. I would wait and breed her and see if she is splash. When she's bred to the black, she'll throw blue 100%. If you wind up with no blue birds from her, you'll know she's a REALLY light blue. She almost looks like a lavender, but she may be a dirty white since the breeders were all black!

She does look like a splash, but at the same time kind of not... Hmmm, That didn't help at all did it? Are there darker splotches on her head, or is it just the pic playing tricks on my eyes? My other thought was lavender, but I don't know how that color is made, so

Maybe some pics to show her a little better, plus she really is a pretty bird to look at!! Sorry for not being any help!

I've got 3 that are doing the same and got at least 2 more chicks hatched a day ago, they look blue, all the breeders are black, when I take out the new ones I will post a picture if that might help.

The breeders were all black? I had assumed you had a blue roo and some blue hens in there to get this color.

I'll see if I can get a better picture of her today. They tend to run around crazy when I try to get a close up.

Can you also post a picture of the baby chicks so we can see the chick down color? I unfortunately don't have one of my girl.

The besy way to describe the color is white with a bluish grey cast.

All I can say is I hate ya'll........if it winds up being a splash....LOL!

I'm still going with a REALLY light blue as a sport from the black!

I wonder if BuckCreek has a REALLY dark blue that looks black?

Could be lavender (not saying it is) if each parent carries a copy of lav. Could be the black is really a dark blue.

Are the hackles darker than the body? That usually indicates blue, but I have a pale splash cockerel who has medium-light blue hackles--really pretty--I need to take his photo.
