I've never had a male attack me...UNLESS a hen was being struggled with. As in..she made a noise of distress. ALWAYS catch the males first or you're gonna get slammed. Every male I've had is like this.

So, if you're wanting a bird that will not care if a hen is in distress, please do not go with this breed. I'm sure others have different stories, but with the males' massive size, coupled with large spurs...there is a huge chance of a small child, not knowing that the bird is giving a distress call, could be injured.

Whoever gave me good hatching vibes....THANK YOU! Out of 24 eggs total, 20 were still viable 4 days ago. 5 have hatched and I have, what sounds like, at least 11 more on the way from the massive amounts of chirping in those eggs!

I don't know, I just don't like fooling around with wings too much. I'd personally also prefer someone put something around my angle than my arm. Plus, it is more visible to me and less of a hassle for the bird to live with.

Now that I like. I only once had a rooster do that to me, in fact he rammed me right in the face, but otherwise the boys usually take it out on the females if they're in distress (

Yep. I'll admit it. When I don't catch Clyde first, I get the living daylights scared (and beat) out of me. It's my fault for wanting his hens, but most of the time if I yell "HEY!" at the right moment...he stops immediately. On those times when I'm delayed in saying it..yeah. It's usually my poor arms that get the brunt of it.

But when I'm in the pen doing normal stuff? He'll just come and stand close, but he'll usually stand between you and the hens. The hens LOVE to investigate and will crawl all over you to see what you're doing. He will not attack. You can stand there and pet and love on the hens, but distress them and you're history.

Have 8 chicks now! 2 more on the way!

ETA: about the wing bands...I'm using bright colored zip strips so all I have to do is look down and know what color coordinates to what type of breeding. The leg bands I was replacing every 2 days. UGH..way too much growth!

Had 10 chicks total hatch. One blue chick died the first night (still no clue why??) so I'm down to 9. One chick is just odd. It was the second to last to hatch out and was rock hard from stickiness. I washed itbunder warm water and towel dries and put back into the empty incubator. Now it's half sticky and half fluffy. Doesn't look that great but I've had worse pull through.

Okay, upon the advice of rodrigeezpoultry I am here,,,in the Langshan lovers part of BYC,,I started another thread if there was any interest in buyers of fertile Black Langshan eggs direct from Harvey Noels award winning pen in Ohio 2 years back.We hatched 28 outta 30 eggs sent, have culled down to 4 of the best hens.and will now cull down to 2-3 of the best roos.and pen them all together. after fertility has been checked,we can offer eggs if anyones interested.

Do you have any pics from when they were younger or any photos of his stock from the show? I have Forrest bricked birds and want to keep them pure or at the least ensure the other lines will complement any faults. Welcome to the Langshan thread!!!

Does anyone on here have any white langshan bantams? I had 8 white bantam chicks hatch last week out of a dozen eggs i ordered. I will post some pics as they grow. I also have about a dozen LF white chicks out, the young pullets are starting to lay a little bit more so hopefully i will have lots more hatch.
