Langshan Thread!!!

I know! I hate myself for loving a chick so soon after it's birth but I was so scared I was gonna have to cull it! Such a cute little sucker!

I've got one of Clyde's eggs still in the incubator chirping at me. I was candling to see if I needed to toss anything and it was chirping at me. It was supposed to hatch on Monday...taking it's sweet time. Kind of concerned..

Well dang...Clyde's chick died in the egg. I KNEW I should have helped it. Ah well...poop. Hindsight is 20/20. The dead chick helped me identify which chick out of the bunch is Clyde's at least. The "light" colored one! (My favorite!)

IDK...I'm really thinking the name "Buddha" for the blue chick... "Buddha Blue". I can't wait to see how she turns out!

Any Langshan breeders out there willing to part with a few eggs? A friend of mine is really wanting some and I thought I would surprise her with a couple of babies. Would gladly pay for them, unless of course somebody is wanting to trade for some LF polish eggs.

Message me.

thanks

I wish I could but I had to move my birds. Have you tried contacting the Langshan Club on Yahoo Groups?

There are also several ebay auctions up. I debated on a few but they expired and I figured it was for the best.

ETA: On a side note, my poor baby "Little Mister" from last years breeders has passed on to the big show ring in the sky.

I am kind of excited about the next hatch.

Have 21 good eggs still in the incubator! Almost all are split to white so it's gonna be interesting to see how it goes! I believe I have 2 or 3 eggs in there from Little Mister so I'm hoping for a blue cockerel or something to help restore a blue cockerel to the flock.

Chicks are hatching!! We're only 2.5 days early....

Was candling and heard peeping. Put the eggs back in, added humidity and am staying the heck away from the possessed incubator for the next 3 days.

Just put wing bands (plastic zip-ties) on the chicks. They are NOT amused.

Wing bands? Last place I'll put a band on a bird.

for a good hatch though! I'm excited for you! And, I also convinced my family that this place needs some Langshans.

So, perhaps next spring, . . . . Hopefully I'll get some good eggs. Hint hint.

Illia, how come it's the last place? I just hate having to trash the zip ties they grow out of in 2 days time. The zip ties on the wings should be able to keep for at least a week. Thanks for the hatch wishes! Got 1 out with another pipping through the shell. Great surprise!

I have a question. How are Langshan rooster temperments in general? Are they crazy or calm or does it just depend on the breeder or hatchery? I really like my Hatchery hens, just wondering how a Langshan rooster would be-- kid friendly or dangerous?
