Langshan Thread!!!

Forrests birds were dispersed throughout the country. I wish I could tell you who purchased them but I think there were several purchasers.

I've got Forrests line but don't believe I have enough birds or eggs for what you'd be after.

Well let's see...

I'm going to be putting SEVERAL eggs in the incubator on Sunday. I'm gathering eggs for people who have expressed interest. Only the blacks and blue eggs are leaving so that leaves me with the split eggs!

I'm also really intrigued with the black chick from the blue x blue breeding. I think there's something promising with her...

I've got 15 eggs in the incubator at the moment that made it past the first week of incubation. I will be candling again on Sunday night to make room for the 24 eggs awaiting to be put in and that will be my last hatch for the year. Seems like just yesterday I was putting my first batch in.

I hope you keep me in mind for some eggs. I'm thinking of ordering some chicks from Murrey McMurrey just to have a few until I'm able to get some again. I will start hitting the swaps soon and may find some there too.

I've never had hatchery Langshans, just seem to "miss" something when I look at them, but I'm sure their temperaments are as awesome as the show birds!

I will definitely keep you up to date on the hatching eggs. I've got 2 people ahead of you and I have some birds for sale, but being up in Ohio...the soonest I could get them to you would be October or at the Nationals, but by then I'm sure you'll have several birds growing up or laying of your own!

I love my hatchery Langshans from Ideal. They don't have the U shape to the extreme of the showbirds, but so far as pullets they are laying awesome brown big eggs. I love their personalities, generally calm and easygoing!

I've got some porcelain d'uccle in 'lockdown' right now and am hoping for chickies by tuesday- day 21. I bet if I put some Langshan eggs in the incubator a few would develop and give me porcelain d'uccle cross with them. Hmm.... should I try a color project? Porcelain d'uccle with the lavender gene over black Langshan hens and see what I get?

Darn right Polish! I'm hoping to start showing fairly soon once I move up North. (The ONLY reason I'm excited to move north mind you..and my fiance understands that..he's so understanding!)

I just put my last batch of eggs into the incubator today. Over 2 dozen eggs...I'm 3 eggs over the "limit" for the incubator, but I figure in 3 days I'll be able to tell which ones are infertile and which ones are still good and I can rotate the other eggs in. Why waste right?

The last hatch has nothing but black x white, blue x white and blue x blue. The blue x blue are a brother/sister breeding and I seem to have several quitters with them. The one chick I've gotten from the breeding is very promising. She's maybe 3 days old now? Cute little thing. Seems like I only got one pullet from the whites, cockerels all the way around. I doubt I'll be keeping any white cockerels. Just don't have enough "umph" to them whereas the splits seem to be rupturing with potential thanks to the added blood. I'm keeping very close tabs on which ones are splits and which aren't so that it won't mess up the pure Forrest birds.

Kind of sad that this is the end of the road for this year for me. I've got 2 definite orders, one is filled and waiting for the boxes to get here and the next one I'm gathering eggs for. I'm having to move my birds thanks to people trying to force me into contracts/purchase agreements at the place where I had them so I am moving them to a friend's place. Their place is a ways away from me so I am not sure if eggs will be available after these two orders. Just depends I suppose. When we move North I will probably be able to fulfill some orders depending on when my hens quit. The lights for them will be disappearing in another week though.

Sorry, I'm rambling, just kind of upset at what people can start being greedy about...

Thought I'd post a photo of a promising little pullet. I think she'll do VERY well in shows as well as the breeder pens!

Probably go in there with "Mongo".

I've got a cute little blue pullet that has something to her. She sits flatter than the gorgeous little black girl, but there's something there also...
