Langshan Thread!!!

Gotcha. Know how that is, have one breed you really look at and the others are just there for background scenery.
I looked bak through everything and for the life of me, I can't find the person that asked about bantam eggs? My birds have started laying again. I have promised 10 doz. eating eggs to a church for Easter breakfast, but after April 8, I'll be able to send out some black and blue bantam eggs. If anyone is going to shows in the NE (Ohio, PA...) I may be able to bring some pairs or trios to part with?

I for got all about you moving to PA, are you going to the Canfield, Ohio show this year? There should be some good birds there.

Why would it being barred preclude it from being a pure Langshan? Maybe not US SOP. Don't the Germans have barred?

Sherrie

Wow! Mine have never looked anything like those? The two on the left are blues, the one in the middle might be a barred Langshan, but I'm not sure if it's pure Langshan? It's possible to get barred from a black x white breeding. The one on the right looks like a white, but all of my white chicks come out looking black, so that's a guess. They whites never have black eyeliner, whereas all my blacks, blues and my (finally) splash do.

There are pure barred Langshans out there. They are very rare but not unheard of. I had begun but had to stop once my birds were killed. So it's entirely possible it is a barred Langshan.

Are these pictures of jersey Giants or Langshans? I noticed that some of the eyes were cloudy? is that a common problem and which breed had the cloudy eyes? thanks

Which pictures? Sometimes it helps to quote the comment to which you are replying.

Jersey Giants will not have foot feathering; langshans will. Type is completely different, too. Going back several pages, teh only photo where a bird looked like it had a cloudy eye, was accompanied by a comment that he had blinked, and the other photos of the bird showed no cloudy eye.

Oh, Ok...no problems.
I was looking on this site to purchase Lanshans. This is the Link I was referring to it was from a post by rodriguez poultry.
"Breeder of: Show Quality Black Langshans.

I really don't know how to use this site. It seems like the groups are pretty well established... so I will give up at this point. Have a great one everyone!

Please don't go--it is always a bit of trouble learning to navigate a new site. New people are always wanted and welcomed. I am sorry that you did not feel welcomed or wanted. Some threads move really rapidly (and others like a S-L-O-W tortoise), and on rapidly moving threads it is easy to miss a post or not understand if there is no obvious reference.
