Langshan Thread!!!

Langshans are in my top 5 Favorite breeds. Where can you get a big docile beautiful bird that lays a good amount of eggs a year. But to top all the reasons of having a Langshan for me would be that it has not been butchered to death in breeding programs and projects which leaves it with a lot of its natural characteristics.

Yes, the first one looks to be a cockerel and the second looks to be a pullet. My males almost never get their tails in until after 8 months old. Very slow-growing. Beautiful chicks! Can't wait to see them when they are grown!

I agree with Skyline on the breeding. Thanks to having such few projects, the Langshan characteristics are pretty heavily ingrained for a bird that has been around for so long. You can't mess with "perfection" though!

Even in crosses, you can see the Langshan characteristics if a parent was a Langshan.

OK, I gotta know... this this a boy? "He" is about 1/3 larger than the other chick I got. They were both supposed to be pullets, but this one is definitely rooster-like. I am new to chickens and this is my first Langshan. I absolutely love them! They are sweet and curious and loads of fun to watch. Have them with 2 Andalusians, a couple mixed Easter Eggers, a real Wheaton Americauna, a Sicilian Buttercup (this birds pal) a beautiful Lavender Orpington pullet and a Partridge Cochin. Love them all but especially the Langshan. They already stand up to my full grown hens!

Pretty sure this is a roo. What do you think?

The only white bantam pullet I kept this year for my program. LOVE the way she looks and stands. She's just bonkers right now.

I can't even imagine. I would think it would be a light greenish egg color...but I could definitely be wrong!
