Langshan Thread!!!

Pics
I was at the TTPC Show in Bath, NY this weekend & a very nice Black Langshan hen was Champion Asiatic. Got talking with anoth "Old Timer" who reminded me of Forest Beauford putting 4x4 blocks under the corners of show cages so they'd be tall enough for his males. He sure grew some tall ones.

Did you use her to make that young male?

I breed Andalusians and I can tell you, if she is a "blue-bred" black, she does have lacing but the only time you can see it is when she's in strong sunlight... as she is. If you haven't used her to make some blues, may I humbly recommend that you do? She would make some really nice ones for you.

Hello Lacy. I can tell you, with certainty, there is no blue in her background. She was the result of a white female to a black male that carried recessive white. The father of her sire was my black male originally from Forrest.

She definitely takes after her father in her stance.

i have 3 pure bred Australian Langshang hens(POL) they are all black with a bluish sheen, and 2 batams ones white an ones black the black one has a greenish sheen

Please share! I'd love to see your Australian Langshans! Not nearly enough photos of them online! Do you live near Australia?

NYREDS, I swear, I can't get any of my males to get into condition in time for shows! Maybe this next spring I'll have a male FINALLY ready to be shown. Hopefully I'll be coming to NY this year as I doubt I'll be going to the show in Delaware again so that should free up a weekend! :D

Unless I'm mistaken, the recessive white would explain it.

Yes it could. The recessive white "could" weaken the black lines. Which is why I decided to not breed from those birds. I did just want to point out, that the birds did not have to have blue in their background in order to present the lacing. Many birds at shows do have the lacing as well. It is not uncommon in non-blue lines.

Can't wait to see them!

Update on my flock:

In total, I've lost 26 birds to Fowl Pox. Not including the bout in January. I had put eggs into the incubator before and thank goodness, they are starting to hatch. So far, I have 2 bantam white Langshans and hopefully the rest will start popping out of there!
