Langshan Thread!!!

I told Mikaela that I would post some pics of the younger Langshans that hatched from eggs from her stock. They are cuties with nice wide bodies and I think have a lot of potential. I do have two 17 week old blue pullets from Mikaela's stock that I haven't taken pics of yet. Cheryl gave them to me and they are beautiful! I'll try to get some pics of them in the next few days.

A young black pullet and white cockerel along with the flock mascot a little white polish named Marshmallow.

The white cockerel out strutting his stuff!

Please forgive me for being a thread hog with all of these pics! I have more to post of the newest boys that went to the farm. I really would like a splash roo because I love the way that they look. But I don't want to keep one just because his coloring is pretty. Here are pics of the oldest roo in the older group. He crowed for 2 hours the day after I brought them here which hastened their trip to the farm! His body and tail spread are wider than the little splash cockerel #6 but still not as wide as the black boys. I'm wondering if his chest is not deep enough, his back is too long, and his tail angle is not the best. My daughter named him Percy after the Scarlet Pimpernel. He is full of himself and wanted so badly to mix it up with my hens!

He looks better than the other splash but something seems off to me with him.

My choices from the first set are 5, 2, 4, 3, 1, 6. (Best to not the best)

I need to go get my drivers license renewed so I'll see if I can explain later.

Thank you, Jim! I'll be waiting to hear your comments! 5 & 2 are my favorites as far as temperament goes.

So you think that Biggie Little will catch up to his hatchmates? I should try to get pics of him with one or two of them. He's the one that at least one of the other ones picked on so he doesn't always hang with them. And should I not be concerned with feathering on the middles toes? I have 2 more splash boys to post pics of when I have more time to do it.

My thought is that Biggie Little was stunted when younger. I've had some birds of other breeds that were stunted but when put in a cage and offered full feed seemed to catch up. He has the genetics to be big so even if he doesn't catch up he should pass on the correct genes. What percentage protein feed do you feed? I was told by a long time breeder of other breeds to feed 22% protein to heritage breedsit will help them reach their full potential. I feed mine 22% meat bird feed from hatchi fing that my shipped eggs, when fed higher protein survive the trip better.

#5's wattle, I'd guess, is the result of an injury by his cranky brothers. Do some crosses with him, tgen with your back up. Raise the offspring for a while and make sure the trait isn't passed on. (I really doubt tgat it will)

As far as foot feathering, I've been told by the wonderful Ms Mikaela to breed one with heavy feathering to one with light feathering. If I read the SOP correctly, feathers on the middle toe are a fault, not a DQ.

More to come.

One of my issues with the last Splash you showed is how far apart the legs are. To me, they should be set further apart. The SOP states "legs set wide apart, straight when viewed from the front". (Pg 85 American SOP 2010)

Sorry guys don't have any Langshans.
But Langshans sure are beautiful birds aren't they?

Hi guys, i'm new to this thread and have a question regarding my roos breed or breeds lol. He's a bit of a mix and I was wondering if he might have some Langshan in him? I'm no expert on the breed but someone suggested he might be Langshan Cross?

To me, I don't see much Langshan blood in him. It looks a bit more like an Australorp cross.
