Langshan Thread!!!

I may be able to ship if someone could help me figure it out. I have several started cockerels and pullets. Unfortunately, all I have are blues (did I just SAY that?! When did we think THAT would happen!).

If anyone is interested in some birds on this thread, PLEASE let me know. I will do some special rates to get ya'll started. The birds I have are well on their way to getting too big for their pen and I need to thin down the herd. Especially if we get on the move.

Hi I'm guessing that this shipping thing is only over the states???

Unfortunately yes. I don't know the policies to shipping birds. Eggs would probably be much cheaper but I don't know the policies on that either! If you can help me figure it out I would be happy to try?

Aw. Well that's a shame! Doesn't stuff coming into the US get Xrayed as well?

Something funny was said to me once. To be sure to wrap the eggs in tin foil to prevent the eggs from being ruined. I sat there a second and replied with "If aluminum foil worked against Xrays, wouldn't the X-ray tech be wearing that instead of the heavy lead vests?"

I was finally able to move my bantam Langshans outside and move my other cockerel into another pen. He was getting pecked and run all over by his larger and more mature brother. Hopefully he will really blossom now!

Any news on anyone else's project?

lol.
I know you probably dont like this but I've got a few Langshan cross RIR eggs ready to hatch out soon- Please dont tell me what colours they'll be or what they'll look like as i want a bit of a surprise.

We dont laugh at crosses, well I dont anyway. 100 years ago RIR cock on Langshan hen was quite common in the egg-industry, as first generation laid quite well, and the cocks made decent meat in shorter time than it takes for a langshan to mature and get ready for slaughter. And that was two important things for the small farmers that made a living out of our hobby. But remember when you cross for eggs/meat: Strain is more important than breed.

Oh I can get a good chuckle out of mixing breeds. Some of them, you can get some WEIRD things happening! For example, could you imagine a naked neck Langshan? EEK!

As for a RIR x Langshan, why not? Will be a fun mix, but I wouldn't market them as something "unique" such as the "Royal Langshan."

I promised a few new pics of my potential breeders. These were actually taken a couple of weeks ago when we had a break in rain. It is raining again here in CA and everything in my backyard is a muddy mess. Please excuse the background junk in some of these pics. My crazy birds will just not pose for pics where I want them to!

The first pics are of my white cockerel who hatched from one of your eggs, Mikaela. He is 21 weeks in these pics. You can see how big he is compared to the blue pullet and one of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock pullets. Both of the pullets are several weeks older than him. I have still to get a pic of him with his tail up but I'm trying. My daughter wants to name him Gandalf. (Guess what trilogy we just watched?!)

This is my white pullet also from you, Mikaela. She is 28 weeks old here. Sometimes she holds her head higher so there is not so much difference if any between her tail height and her head height. I think that she is a beauty!
