Langshan Thread!!!

Those roos are mine Carolyn28. Thanks for the input. I will try to take a few more pics this weekend so you can see the bottom one standing upright like the others and hopefully it will be more obvious to me as well which has best u shape and who is best proportioned. Thanks again.

Ok, well mine are not from coopscoops, they are from Judy Gaines. She seems on the up and up. I can understand the frustration everyone feels about false advertising. I personally want to make mine better than I stArt with, but it isn't easy without help. I had hoped to get some eggs or chicks from you next year Mikaela as well. Didn't have any more room this year and shut down the bator mid July when all the girls went broody on me.

Lmiller, I went back and reread the messages to see how I could have misread anything and possibly given you an indication that Judy wasn't on the up and up? I couldn't see where but if that's what you had thought that we meant, I know that it wasn't what I had intended? Judy has good birds and they're nothing to snub.

No wonder I was so confused when reading this last night! I had thought I was directing at another person on the thread and another person thought I was directing at them! Maybe I should start posts with names from now on?

Might have been my comment? I wasn't saying anything about the person either no idea who they are, just made a general comment about how dishonest it is to use another breeders name to sell their birds. You know, because it was mentioned the person was advertising beauford line birds, and I see that kind of thing happen all the time with bad birds and breeders. They claim some "line" but once someone makes the decisions and raises the birds, they're not that original persons line anymore. It's why more and more breeders just kill their culls rather than sell them to someone who breeds bad birds and then sells them as so and so's line.

Don't know what the answer is to stop this. I'm going to try selling to backyard folks under a farm name rather than my name or just not selling to anyone that asks about "lines" since the good breeders don't care. "We breed birds not names." Is a saying a good judge and even better breeder I know uses.

Edit: Judy has some very nice birds, have seen her post them recently in a few Facebook groups. And those young birds look nice LMiller.

I guess I was inferring from different posts that were general about people and Beufords that were posted right after my birds that the comments might be directed towards the breeder of those birds is all. Sorry for misunderstanding.

Went to the Portage WI APA show today. Only 5 Langshans there out of 2,000+ birds. The Lanshans were not so hot. Two Roos and three hens there. One roo had judges comment "very poor type." He had a peacock tail. It's was a very strange tail to say the least. Anyway, I wish I would have had a bird or two ready to go, but I wasn't planning on trying till next year.

I found my first pullet egg today. Five of my pullets are 30 weeks and one is 31 weeks. It was 49 grams and had a nice sheen and shape. Unfortunately laid on the floor so my neighbor's dog gets it.

Very cool Dirt Farmer! I love getting those first eggs! Always like a little gift for all of your hard work.

Went to the Tulsa State Fair and took Champ. Asiatic with a black hen and Res. Champ. Asiatic with a Blue Langshan hen. I can't believe a blue actually beat black Cochins! Cool!

Darn it M! I let my subscription fall by the wayside. Darn! I love seeing the blues and whites win.I love my blacks but I'm a fan for the underdogs.

Thanks! I didn't know which birds to be more proud of! The largefowl for winning Asiatic or my white bantam pullet beating all of the other colors for Best of Breed!
