My white bantam pullet is getting closer to laying. She's gaining weight and her comb and face is getting redder. The blues should be starting back up any time and the blacks need to hurry the heck up.
The largefowl look to be in condition, but their combs are not anywhere near red...UGH. Someone make them lay!!! But, the lights have only been on for a week...can't expect to much!
As of this weekend, both of my LF pullets are laying. I have some in the incubator already. They have been fertile (One was huge but I set it anyways. When I candled, there were two embryos developing. If they continue to develop, I may need to help them hatch.)
My pair of bantams are fertile. I have about 15 of them in the incubator. These are the ones that carry the white gene.
My trio of Bantam Blacks had one pullet laying for a while now but none of her eggs have been fertile. The other pullet just started laying on Christmas Eve. The cockerel has been trying to breed them, but must not be hitting the mark. Should I try to AI?
The trio didn't want to pose for pictures.
My younger LF group are at the gangly teenager stage.
Personally, I wouldn't AI. He'll eventually get it and the females may be just as awkward right now. Congrats!!!
I can't wait to candle these next week! The blue bantam cockerel has been breeding everything in sight, the young black LF cockerel has as well. The only one I'm slightly concerned about is the LF blue cock. He hasn't finished his molt so he may not be feeling it. If he doesn't, I'll put in my big black male and see if he seems interested.
I really think I'm going to go ahead and cull my black bantam cockerel...he has nothing to add to my flock, but I'd hate to cull a bird that someone else could use. Then again, why keep the little turd here? I think he'll be much better with a beer can in him...
Keep us updated on those eggs and breedings! Can't wait to see how your birds do!
You know you have issues when you almost scream from excitement when your best, oldest and half-blind male covers your best hen. She is separated now!! Woohoo!!
I put an auction up for my BBS bantam Langshan eggs. My incubator is FULL and I am just eating them. The starting price is $10. I like to ship a full dozen, so if my bantams don't give me a full dozen, my BBS Largefowl Langshan eggs will make up the difference!
