Langshan Thread!!!

Well, most recently there were chicks that died in shell with their insides on the outside. Brains formed on the outside....it was definitely gross.
I do have a hen for sale. Blue LF, 1 year old. I need her gone ASAP so I'm asking $10. I'm near State College, PA and can't ship.

Congrats rodriguezpoultry on the show prizes. Very cool !!
The orphan chick is doing well and was inside in a box for 3 days. Luckily the other Silkie mum hatched one out last Saturday and she accepted the ring in no worries. It's funny though the chick that I hand hatched, presumably 3 days premature, is larger and more active.

How cute!!!! All of my bantam whites hatch out 3 days early. It's really weird...If they're not hatched out by the time the LF are, they probably won't hatch. It's a good "warning bell" for when the eggs are due!

She looks adorable! I usually don't have an issue with the mommas accepting babies. My Lil Ropo (gift bird!) is precious. She'll take any chick under her wing.


AND, it looks like I have white LF again. I have at least one largefowl white chick in my barracks now. It must have come from the black male and splash female. I thought something was odd when I wasn't getting all blues! I got blues AND whites from the set up! If the chicks come out looking anything like their parents, I have a feeling I'll be keeping the white LF around!

Cheryl and I are not going to be breeding Langshans together. She is going to be concentrating on the several different breeds that she has already been breeding. I am hoping to be keeping one or two roos and a few hens on a friend's farm. Here is a link for pics of the birds that we are trying to find new homes for. This is the group of Langshans that Cheryl is currently housing at the Omelet Ranch. I am going to be listing them on FB and maybe in Buy-Sell-Trade. There are 9 cockerels and 5 pullets available. I do have individual pics if anyone is interested in seeing them.

I do have a question. The Langshans that we have seem to be slow developing. How old do you let the cockerels get before culling for tail set, body conformation, etc.?

They are SLOW to develop. I'd say 8-9 months.

Oh yeah.....you've got a LONG wait.

I swear. I don't know how people are showing their birds at 8 months old. Mine are 5 months and have NO tail feathers at all.

Glad to hear you are gonna stick with them!!! That white has a great head! I can already see a nice back on him as well!
