So sorry for your loss! I know how you feel - I have eggs in my incubator now from my Iowa Blue flock that was killed by dogs. I am really praying I get some to hatch!

Oh gosh. I hope you have better luck than I did. What makes it so hard is you can never get it back. That 1 egg was my only chance.

Noseychickens, I think I have your avatar's long lost sort of twin sister.

I have to tell my husband that the devil makes me set them. Not sure he is falling for that though.

I am a closet incubator. My incubator is so quiet my husband doesn't even notice until it is too late.

I so needed these to come in the mail today. Superbad day.

So thats, uhm... in addition to the 18 eggs that might be under some of my many broodies, but I can neither confirm nor deny those rumors.

Ok guys....I was preparing my brooding box for my chicks and when I got out my heat bulb I realized I purchased the wrong doggone one. It is a blacklight heat bulb. I guess this is meant for a reptile. Will this still work for chickens? It provides warmth but I am just not sure about the purple light it emits. HELP! I am going to go rummage thru the barn in my winter supplies to see if I have an infrared light in a heat lamp.

Hi everyone! Look what came in my mailbox this morning.....

Yay!!! I was reading the many pages of this thread and want to ask: How are you all doing? How many hatches did well? Did some do poorly? Did you figure out why? This is my third hatch. My last two (first one was 3 eggs, second one was 4) didn't work out at all. Nothing came from either one! I used an incubator like the one that was the prize offered on the first post. I would reeeeeally like to know, who won it and did it work for you??? I really don't know what went wrong. It stayed at a very steady temperature but didn't hatch a thing! I built a new incubator out of a styrofoam cooler. Not the best, I know, but definitely a step up! I have it at a steady 100 degrees and 50% humidity! These eggs will go in tonight, I think. I was going to let them rest for 24 hours but I will probably put them in before I go to bed tonight because it has been unseasonably cold around here!!! I will be rereading this thread, looking for tips and info and such! Feel free to offer any advice because I am hoping this hatch will be like my marriages....Third time's the charm!
