Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

Do want that many broodies? Did you try to break them? I'm just curious, cuz my first chickens are only about 4 weeks old, and I'm trying to glean info on everything I can possibly expect.

Not really, but I don't bother trying to break them. They'd just move in with another and be grumpy all the time. Most mine are very broody breeds so it's kind of pointless.

I don't know what my problem is with hatching Seramas, but I ended up with ONE Serama chick...AGAIN! With 7 late quitters.

Currently have 5 b/b/s bantam Favs in lockdown, due today, and I heard peeping under my broody Fav this morning!!

I have hatched 10 Serama out of 47 eggs, from 2 different sellers. I have heard around here that Seramas are hard to hatch from shipped eggs. I also have a quad of larger Seramas and hatch about half in the incubator and 80-100% under a broody.

So I doubt its you. I will see movement when I candle before lockdown....then nothing .

Well, I'm glad it's not just me - though interestingly enough, I had my best hatch from shipped eggs! Ended up with 2/9 that time. Then 1/7 on hand - delivered eggs, and now 1/8 on hand delivered eggs.

I just can't wait for my pullet to start laying so I can hatch from my pair that live in the incubator room! LOL I wonder if I'll have any better rates when the eggs only have to go 2 feet?!? LOL

Well I am done with shipped Serama eggs. I have a nice little starter flock. My 4 oldest ones hatched end of March, I got 1 rooster and 3 hens.... I call that a miracle !!!

Not sure on the others.

....people are trying to talk me into hatching duck eggs. But the hubby says, "NO DUCKS!!!"

Until recently, that is. Just the other day he said, "If we are going to have ducks, I get to pick them out!!!"

[baby steps, people. baby steps]

Just pulled 3 loaves of bread out of the oven---we've already eaten all the bagels I made earlier today.

I have:

Chocolate swirl bread (breakfast toast or with dark chocolate peanut butter OR Nutella)
Flaxseed swirl bread (for dinner or sandwiches)
Regular ol' sandwich bread, made with the blue salt.

Except for the extremely obvious lack of bacon smell, I imagine this is what heaven smells like.
