Olga went broody on Monday with that day's egg under her (she'd been showing signs for about a week prior). We gave her 4 more eggs that we had in the house from the previous couple of days, 2 of Olivia's eggs and 1 of Bertha's and 1 of Lola's, which gave her a total of 5. The next day, she laid another, then another on Wednesday. When I checked her Thursday, she had laid TWO MORE in one day (I checked her once every day) and was up to 9 eggs under her. I gave her 2 more eggs that were kinda old, but I want to SEE if the broody can hatch them (they're about 3 weeks old... I've heard of it happening, and the girl that laid them may not be with us much longer so it would be nice to have one of her bebes if at all possible). She did not reject the eggs and has had them 24 hours now, so that's a good sign.
My rooster does not like that I am going in and disturbing his broody hen. He has been a wonderful, sweet roo, but he flogged me three times yesterday. I couldn't figure out why he suddenly doesn't like me and is coming after me, but Linda (gryeyes) visited us last night & when we were talking about it, she noted he is probably acting like this because he has a broody hen sitting on HIS eggs and that I've been disturbing her. Soooooo I'm leaving the broody alone for the next few weeks and hoping Rico mellows out. If he doesn't, we'll be having kung pao Rico for dinner one night.
