Ahhhh, that is exactly what I would do.

I see a chicken in need....my husband sees dinner. I say, "Over my dead body! Don't make me choose between you and my chickens!"

126 of 147 out of their shells... have like 21 more eggs to go (not sure on them) sadly one little fluff butt got trampled in the hatcher and didn't make it, but hey 125 live chicks is a start! Not too bad!

Darn went out to the coop earlier today and found a cute little chipmunk striped turken chick a few inches away from Mamma in a depression in the hay and really cold but still alive. Picked it up and noticed its neck was really crooked, but figured it was due to being all curled up trying to keep warm. I shoved it back under Mamma. Just went out now and peeked under her and the turken still has wry neck.

My rules are that I'll help something along as long as it wants to live.

So now I'm wondering if I need to bring it inside now or wait until morning and see if it might have just been the cold?

I'd hate for it to brood alone, I don't need another Hoppy.

Laree's update:

I locked down the Brinsea for the chickies due to hatch on the 24th. I also moved the teenagers out of the quarantine cage, the new nesting box in there, and then moved 4 more broodies into the newly-designated "Broody Barn".

Usually moving them breaks them, which would be FABULOUS. If they STAY broody, I will give them the Icelandic eggs coming from The Warden.

...finally, the Brinsea is going to be locked down for 10 days, which kinda stinks. There are turkey egg in there, due on the 30th, as well as eggs due on the second. I may need to do some re-arranging of the eggs in the Reptipro and the Brinsea, otherwise the later eggs wont get enough turning.

Or the stupid broodies could just STAY broody, and I can give them all the eggs already cooking.

Wouldn't that be grand? Then the incubators could be cleaned for The Warden's Icelandic eggs, and I wouldn't have to raise chicks!

Here's the chick. I brought it inside and put it in the basement in a brooder by itself for now, figuring that would let it stretch a bit more than being crammed with 7 other chicks under a Jersey Giant. Now, I'll give you that a Jersey Giant is spacious chick real estate... but not a lot of overhead room for neck stretches. Plus mom already kicked it out of the nest once.

When I first brought it in:

Once it got in the brooder it tried to stretch its neck a bit and ended up doing pretty darned good, which gives me hope:

But it was screeching its fool head off so I tried to find a stuffed animal friend for it. Being that this is a childless house of a very pragmatic occupant, there was a dearth of stuffed friends. I ripped this thing off the "I Love You" Valentines Day coop door decoration (while I am pragmatic, the girls are not... they decorate for all the holidays) and there was peace again in the brooder:

Got 2 batches of Iowa Blues ready to set tonight. 79 eggs in total. Now the loooooooong wait.
