Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

I lost all of my last hatch due to a faulty thermometer. I was devastated. One of the eggs was very special to me. My favorite hen passed away unexpectedly and I had just happened to put one of her eggs in my incubator. The entire time my incubator was 8 degrees too cold. All the eggs had started to develop and then stopped. It was so tragic. Now I have a digital and regular thermometer in the incubator.

All three of the guinea eggs are internally pipped (one has a shell pip too). I decided to candle my eggs since it is garbage day. Well, it's a good thing I did since I was apparently 1 WEEK OFF on some duck eggs! 10 duck eggs (marked as 12 eggs due on 5-17) were internally pipped and buried under some other (smaller) eggs! That would have been interesting if they'd had to hatch in the full bator!

Usually I write the date-set on the egg but I didn't for those eggs. I don't know where I came up with their date but they're due now!

Yesterday I set

8 Wheaten Ameraucan
11 WC Black/Cuckoo Polish (bantam)
8 Bantam Buff Laced polish
13 bantam black cochins
17 Runner Ducks

Some of these are a little older than 2 weeks since they were collected. So I am not expecting a fantastic hatch rate even though they are all from my own birds. I'm hoping to get a couple more runs and coops completed to seperate the rest of my breeding pairs/groups and give my incubator a reason for being here!

My wheaten ameraucanas under my broody are pipping!!! I'm also hoping to see some call ducklings by the end of the week.

Congrats Justuschicks and shelleyd2008

I have been setting eggs closer to 3 weeks and one I found in piles around the farm, even from the fridge. I am getting better then 60% from these. I need to start taking notes on these experiments....

I figure why waste them and throw them out, can't hurt to try. You will be surprised. And NO I do not even turn them while waiting to get in the bator, just stick them in a carton on top of the bator.

So sorry for your loss! I know how you feel - I have eggs in my incubator now from my Iowa Blue flock that was killed by dogs. I am really praying I get some to hatch!
