Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

I got home to a broody Doris. Doris is my Coronation Sussex. She's waaaaay too ditzy to have children. I did the cool water dip. Seemed to have worked. We'll see if it sticks.

Black Betty (Jersey Giant) wouldn't get off her nest today! I had moved her yesterday from the actual nesting box to a broody box. Thought the old bird was just being stubborn so I lifted her up and saw a pip! Didn't think she was due til Saturday but I really wasn't keeping good records...

I had another cochin bantam, coturnix quail, and a melanistic pheasant hatch sometime overnight. Not sure if I said anything before but yesterday I had another 8 coturnix, 1 cochin bantam, 1 silkie, 2 serama, 1 BCM, and 1 EE chicks hatch. On to the next

I will have to get some pictures of the broody's going on here tomorrow. I have 3 bantam hens in one coop ... all broody, 2 are sharing a nest & eggs. I have no idea how that is going to work out. I candled tonight and pulled 6 eggs. I am not sure if they are infertile or newly laid, so I stuck them in my incubator

The rest are at different stages of development. The rooster just sits there looking lost.

One bantams hen on 1 bantam egg & 4 EEs. All developing.

One LF Cohin just went broody yesterday, I think I stuck about 10 eggs under her, she already was sitting on a bunch from the day. The other hens just sit right on top of each other and lay all in the same crate

4 of these hens are first timers

So now my barn is filling up with dog crates, its like a maze in there.

And I hatched out 9 more Quail today and have a bunch in lockdown.... BBRs, Wellsumers, Seramas.

We go into lockdown Saturday for hatching on Tuesday.

In the interim, my American game/EE cross hen went broody again 4 days ago. She had 1 of her own eggs, and I gave her 4 more for a total of 5. Yesterday, I looked under her, and she had 7! Today, I looked under her, and now she has 9! How can she lay more than 1 egg in a day? I don't know how, but she did it! Two of the eggs I gave her are from our girl Olivia, and it's going to be neat to see what Olivia & Rico produce together. Our rooster is a black mottled java... gonna get some SERIOUS mutt chickens outta this group!

Yay for mutt chicks.

But uber-yay for the shipped purebred eggs I have coming that should be here tomorrow or Saturday!!!

When can I expect your arrival. lol I have a feeling I will be talking about my broodies before too long.

Shortly after my last post I found Doris on the nest again flat as a pancake. So....I dipped her again late yesterday afternoon a little longer in a little cooler water. This time seems to have worked. She was up and about preening this morning when I passed by her area to go check on the chicks in the basement. Hope it sticks this time.
