Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

Oh how sweet! I love pics of hens with new hatchlings! There is just something so sweet about seeing a little chickie peeping out from under it's mama's feathers.

Thank you for sharing.

All kinds of broody issues here. Broody #1 left her cage for a dirt bath outside for 30 minutes, leaving me to chick-sit when I opened the door to change her food/water. Then another broody constantly spills her food/water and buries the dishes so I have 6 chicks without food or water. The other broody bites me HARD constantly when I change out food and water.

ENOUGH! I am done hauling food and water to the coop, cleaning cages, getting bitten all to have chicks that aren't greatly cared for. I can't let them out of their cages because the rest of the adults try and kill the chicks (they've succeeded in the past in killing chicks, even when they do good for a couple of days together).

I brought all the chicks inside today to be with the sweetest Momma yet, the barred rock who is the nastiest piece of work when she's not a mother. Imagine that. It's been about a week since all the chicks hatched and she took all the other chicks under her wing (so to speak) without so much as a grumble today.

She is the brady bunch now, went from 3 chicks to 12 in less than 5 minutes.

And amazingly, they fit:

Hi -- I am a hatchaholic. My husband's patience is wearing thin. I can't stop buying eggs!! Is there any help for me?? I do give most of the chicks away. I just love watching them hatch. Will I ever get tired of it??

Black Ameraucana has gone totally broody now. She's been hinting at it for over a week, but she's collected 10 Marans eggs and isn't budging so I've left her be. Marked the eggs (since she pretty much tries to steal any eggs laid in her vicinity) so I know which eggs not to collect and we'll see if she sticks with it. Haven't caught her off the nest in 4 days so she's on her way.

Incubator full of Iowa blue eggs (and 4 EE eggs) 1 week in, 2 weeks to go!
