Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

Ok, my 2 Easter ducklings are almost a month old and they are huge! One of them has just started making quacking noises. My son says that they both must be female because they never shut up.

Is there anyway to tell other than the drake feather?

I'm starting to have terrible luck with my guineas' eggs, which is very unusual. In the past few days I've had 2 pip and die and had to help 4 stuck keets out of their shells. Usually they are pretty easy-going, so it has to be something to do with the weather.

But the females make the loud quack the drakes make a softer sound.

If the kids try to hold them you would think they were dying with the racket they make! They are the watchdogs for the teenage brooder, and all the chicks listen to them.

Sorry to hear that.... I hatched 8 last week and lost 2 the 1st night.
Maybe it is the weather.... I had a Serama chick zipping under a broody yesterday, I left them alone to do their thing, came back later and the chick was shrink wrapped & dead.

We broke heat records here yesterday...these last 2 weeks have been way too hot.

I pulled broodies off their nest last night and took them to water & food, they are going to dehydrate, they are panting, heads hanging down

Now I have ANOTHER going broody, I took her off and locked her in the coop last night, so far all day today she is on that nest again

I have eggs to go to lockdown tonight, I think I am going to switch out their eggs and get them off the nests before its too late.

What kind are they ?
They should molt and get the drake feather about 3-4 months.
