I have one hen setting in the barn this year, a bantam EE. Last year she disappeared for 3 weeks and came back with 12 or 13 chicks (can't remember for sure which now). This year, sitting in the barn, she has a nest full of what appears to be rotten eggs

I wish she would have went to the weeds...at least she might have gotten something out of the deal.

Search around and can't find her. If I can wake up early enough I might sit out back and see where they come from.

I had to pull a FBCM out of a box and then in the SPPR pen, same thing. Everyone wantes to go broodie on me all of a sudden. I bought Silkies for that. The pullet hasn't laid yet and the hen laid about 4 and haven't seen another egg in 2 months. They're taking up space and freeloading and my girls that are laying are trying to be mommas.

Sorry to hear your momma is missing, she probably took them back to the nest.

I contacted ksf59 about her Wellies. I had never heard of Bob Fugate, and she said in a post once he is in Kansas. So I asked her about them/him. I just set 12 from faykokowv, I got them in a swap! I was so excited I could barely type out mine!

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to get a great hatch from them!

I have 5 out now, but my humidity was so high, the chicks weren't drying out. I use paper towels to lay the eggs on, so I grabbed those out and put the babies back in to hopefully dry. I just hope the other eggs hatch. I'll be so upset if they drown.

Absolutely nothing with the pheasant eggs. I wanna cry. I really wanted some of them.

I think Momma's nest is outside the yard. I've looked everywhere and there's not that many hiding places in my yard. Guess she brought them home to show them off and have a snack.

Who did you get your eggs from?

Are hens with broody tendencies supposed to go broody at every opportunity? I thought they were only supposed to go broody in the spring. Now I have a bunch of hens that have gone broody but I have some major repeat offenders: GLW, phoenix and a bantam mutt. These girls are driving me up a wall! They seriously go broody, raise some chicks, lay 3 eggs then go broody again. Or so it seems, anyway.

They don't understand that we are done raising chicks this year. I haven't given them anything to sit on.

SCG I have a GLW that is intent on going broodie as well. Since I still have to figure out housing arrangements for the ones I have, I am not letting her have any eggs either. I just keep kicking her off the nest on every opportunity I get. So far she must be eating when I don't see her since she hasn't lost any weight but she is going to have to wait a LONG time for that golf ball she is sitting on to hatch. DH has already said no eggs for her (like that would stop me but I really don't need more right now). On an odd note, my lav Orp pullet from the NYD hatch laid her first egg yesterday. It was a perfect tiny pullet egg except for the fact that it was GREEN? I know they are a project color, but I was totally surprised by the color. I didn't know that they were using blue egg layers in the mix.
