I have just fired up the incubator with 6 La Fleche eggs....I really didn't mean to do it...I already have too many chickens and far too many cockerels. Hubby doesn't even know I've done it...

My chickens apparently caused quite a stir last night. I had worked 20 hours straight (on call/overnight) so when I got home last night I begged my boyfriend to let the chickens in so I could go to bed early. He agreed and asked me the number he was looking for at final count. I told him "36, but you'll find 2 in the nesting boxes as they're broody but they're not on eggs, don't worry." I was dead passed out at about 730. He went out, counted 2 chickens in the nesting box, then went 3,4,5... across the roost. And only ended at 35 total. Counted again and again. Then he got paged (he was on call) so had to go inside and do some work. Came back out later with a flashlight, started looking in all the trees, under the steps, under the coop... etc. Was about to wake me up when he figured he'd do one last count. That's when he found a new broody in a nest box behind a curtain!

I have some hatching going on here. A funny story: I have a white easter egger who is in with my barred rock cross rooster. She usually produces white chicks. Well one hatched yesterday and it is jet black. She has some explaining to do.
Everyone here is trying to go broody. One is kind of scaring me. I think my next hatch I'll put chicks under her and take the ggs to the bator. I have 2 broodie Games, one Game who showed up with babies and I was seeing things cause there's 4, one FBCM that is down right mean and sitting on NOTHING and then I checked the SPPR pen and one of them is house keeping too. The Silkies???? NADA! Zip! Zilch!
I have over 300 eggs in the bators and 6 chicks from a hatch yesterday.
