Large Fowl Cochin Thread

Robin, can you be more detailed about your hen's breathing?
Is she wheezing, or making any sounds when she breathes?
Was she out free ranging or in her pen? Has her comb changed color?
If it is not respiratory, could she have something lodged in her throat?

no congestion, clear beak, just mouth breathing and tired- i put in the tub thinking egg bound- her comb is normal- i have been battling mites on her, the ivomec isn't keeping them off, they freerange a couple hours a day, also i noticed that she has no feathers on her keel area- almost like she rubs them off -

OK, this thread was too long for me to read through.

So, super sorry, if it has already been said....

What LF Cochin do you think tends to be most broody?

Or, do you think color doesn't tend to matter so much and all Cochins tend to be pretty broody?

I had very much wanted a good broody hen, and something I read made me think that partridge Cochins are the most broody.... But I ended up only being able to get three White Cochins, and from a hatchery.

What do you think my chances are?

Last year I had the best broody in the world, a cuckoo Marans, but she got eaten by something *sigh*.

Hi I am looking for some advice. I read somewhere ( dont remember where now) that I should trim the feathers in the rear end of my Cochin rooster. Is this true ? Would this be why I have yet to get a fertile egg when he is mounting the hens constantly ?

no change in her this morning, still panting, can't feel an egg, runny poop- almost diareahish
Just something to look into but Cochins and other large chickens can get ascites. They usually will have the panting and sitting down to rest alot etc. just do a search for it in the search box. Could have diahreah from being stressed too. Just something to think about might want to see a vet if not getting better very soon. She sounds very stressed.

FINALLY! LF Cochin specific!
