Large, Open-Air Coop in Central NC

@3KillerBs Check out the Woods design, it may appeal and is proven from more than a century of use in most (not good for hot) climates including very cold.

I have indeed heard of that design.

I'm in steamy central North Carolina so I'm looking more at the "wire box with adequate shelter against storms and winter winds. :)

@3KillerBs Makes perfect sense to me and is a very nice looking setup.

When I see that sort of thing I sometimes ask myself what I am doing here but then (as I am doing at the moment) I look down the lake at the sun rising and illuminating the trees against the snow. Every place has it's beauties and advantages.

And, at the end, our philosophies are similar - make the best of what we have and don't spend time fighting mother nature.

Best of luck!

Thank you.

The advantages of your location show in the summertime when I'm saying "It's not that horribly hot today, only 90," because our summer norm is 95F and 95% humidity.

OH...
DEAR....
LORDY.....
I melted a little just reading that.....
I am not a heat person..... When the chickens are holding their wings out from their sides and panting...Im right there with them!
Good luck on this build! Im looking forward to following!

It's been pouring rain for the past week to the point that even our sand has become saturated and has puddles.

I checked the coop site this morning and found it high and dry, though we will need a diversion ditch uphill since there is a puddling spot a ways above it on the slope.

Miserable to be out in the downpour on a cold morning, but that's the best time to check out what it's going to be like in extremely adverse conditions.

Lifting a cup of coffee to you, and wishing well on your build. Its finally stopped raining here, as soon as it hits 50 I may try and paint, if things aren't wet to the touch (likely will be). 25 tonight, so I'm spending my time getting ready for record lows.

Glad you are addressing the upstream water now - I looked at the elevation change on one side and immediately thought "uh oh", that's going to be a bear to address.
