Today we began building what I’ve currently named The Egg McMansion. I reserve the right to rename it later.
PLANS or rather random notes
It’s Florida so it’s hot and humid a lot of the year and quite wet at times. My Cluck Wagon mobile coop is not working as planned so I’m switching to a stationary coop.
- current 20 hens and 1 roo with 6 five week chicks in isolation. Goal is space for 25-30 total.
- they will have 2000 sq ft of pasture at a time in electric fence in addition or perhaps some free ranging
- 10’ x 38’ Total with 90-100 sq ft in the elevated henhouse/coop and the rest in a secure run either fully or partially covered
- area beneath coop will be fenced for baby chicks or behavioral isolation needs
- Slant tin roof can walk upright throughout
- Inspired by Carolina coops and the TX open air one on this site.
- hemp deep litter for the coop area
- removable roost bars
- auto Electric door to pasture or free range
- best nest box (love these)
- on high & dry land for us. In the shade of trees completely save a small area which is good due to heat
- wood chip, leaves, misc run floor
***undecided things - partially or fully covered run area; front wall to henhouse option even if just chicken wire; hardware cloth to ground vs skirt boards
