The last chick to pip broke a large part of the shell but is stuck unable to finish zipping. Its been stuck like this for about a day now so I opened real quick to take a look, the shell is very dry and brittle and the membrane looks dry too even though humidity has been good. Should I try to help it? Last time I help a chick it failed to thrive.

Yes help him. You may want to find the article for assisted hatching.

Thanks, ive already read that several times. The last time I helped a chick it was overly moist with a super glue like nastiness on it. It took me 3 seconds to get this one out of the shell it was 99% of the way hatched. But, its definitely not doing good its thrashing around the incubator like a dying cicada. It looks normal aside from already being fluffed up but every time it tries to stand it winds up flipping around like a lunatic.

Are you sure it’s not just trying to walk?

Its stopped flipping around long enough for me to have a look, it looks like it either has very severe spraddle leg or its legs are deformed, I want to give it an hour or two to dry more before I check.
Can you please get a photo when you have a chance?

I'll get a photo in a bit I want the chick to rest for now it wasted a lot of energy flailing around and fighting me while getting a brace on its legs. They are definitely super splayed almost horizontal at the hips.

It's a bit late now but one thing that works like a miracle is egg white(if the chick is stuck badly) one of my chick was glued so bad that i couldn't even loosen it with warm water and a towel. So I had read somewhere that rubbing egg white with a Q tip loosens it so i did that and to my surprise it came of so easily like it was never stuck... I had to rub for 3-4 minutes as it was stuck badly..... Hope it helps for the future 💜💜

It was too weak to survive. You couldnt see it in pictures but after it died I had a look at it and part of the problem was that while it was breaking the shell it pulled a lot of shell dust and very small pieces back in because it was sticky and the small shell pieces cemented to its beak and feathers.
