I am presently going through chick hatching withdrawal and need to send eggs some where, any where else but, here (hee, hee). Unfortunately that does not stop my teenage daughter from being sneaking and hatching them in the coop!

Wendy, your father told me that one of the last Champion Seramas came out of very poor quality Parents. He said you never know what quality chicks they will hatch that's why he doesn't sell many. Although you get a much better chance of getting quality chicks with quality Parents. Did he tell you the story about the ugly Serama and the Champion off spring?

I remember him telling us that story at the swap the day you bought your pair from him! I was fotunate to meet Jessi, a BYC member( BluegrassSeramas) and my breeding pair that are laying now are from her stock, you can see them on her BYC page. That is where I got my breeders from and am happy to finally have the pair laying eggs! I have 8 in the bator cooki'n up now and will post pics of them when they hatch! Jessi is very active in breeding quality seramas and keeping EXCELLENT records of the parent birds to assure the quality of her stock! One thing I really liked about her set up when i visited her place in KY was the fact that all the seramas are kept isolated from her other chickens so there is no chance of cross breeding and having the chance of selling someone a small crossbreed as a serama! If anyone interested in eggs wants to see the parents I will be more than happy to send pics of them.

I hatched 8 chicks from the hen I bought from your Father and just put two more eggs in the incubator the other day. I can't wait to see what colors they will turn out to be. I'll be eating the eggs for the rest of the Winter. I have 14 Silkie eggs and two Serama eggs due to hatch Thanksgiving day

and that will be it untill spring. I finished insulating the small coop

4x8 feet and put a strong red heat lamp in it and placed my 4 bigger chicks out in it today. It's toasty warm in there. I'm so glad I have a place to put the chicks when their to big and stinky for the house.

I agree with being careful. I know of at least one breeder that is using OE hens to breed to her seramas, not the way to mass produce these guys, takes a couple of generations to get the type back and should be selling them as such, not as seramas. Sarah has the silked, type still not there on them. They aren't in the ABA standard as of yet and are still being worked on in this country. We have seen lots of them good and bad and what the Judges here are looking for in them, course every Judge reads the standard differently as with any breed. We are in no way looking to work on another breed, something for little pets, they are great!! Even the males are very sweet.
