Hello!
I am new to the site and have 2 fertilized eggs in a Brisnea 20 incubator. Today is day 27 and from what I have read in regards to mallard eggs the hatch should occur on the 27th day. I increased the humidity on day 24 of the cycle to 65% and stopped tufning the eggs and went into lockdown. Before doing this i candled the eggs and could see both ducklings moving. I am looking for some direction as to what to do in the next 24 hours if i still dont have a hatch? I am hesitant to lift the lid to candle theceggs again or to see if i hear peeping before i talk to someone who is educated in hatching.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The hatch day is taken as an average and even in "perfect" conditions, those little ones are going to start hatching when they are ready and not a moment sooner :) I've had early hatches under broody hens and late ones and everything in-between. Same with incubator hatches. 9 Duck eggs I incubated once hatched from a day early to 2 days late, but everyone hatched out just fine.

Keep an eye on the humidity and wait now. Since today is "due" day, they should start showing signs of hatching soon, but be prepared that it may be tonight, or tomorrow only. Keep us posted!

I find that mallards take 31 days to hatch but other breeds of ‘Mallard’ Domestic ducks can take from 27+ days.

Also you should give the eggs a few days as you wouldn’t want to throw or stop the incubator just before they’re due. What I do is tap the egg with my nail and hold it up against my ear and you should hear the duckling move in the egg (hatching).

Thank you so much! I will keep you posted for sure. I'm sure you will be able to hear me yell when I see the first sign of hatching. I'm so excited.

It is exiting :) Just be patient and let nature take it's course. Ducklings can take their sweet time hatching, up to 3 days, so be patient with them, try not to worry. We'll be here if you need help or have any questions.
