Ok...this article is so flawed that I don't know where to start...
1. "But with increased chicken popularity comes a downside: abandonment. In one week earlier this month, eight were available for adoption at the Oakland shelter and five were awaiting homes at the San Francisco shelter. In Berkeley, someone dropped four chickens in the animal control night box with a note from their apologetic owner"
So far this article has mentioned 17 chickens in shelters. During the time the 8 chickens were at the Oakland Shelter, how many cats and dogs were there AT THE SAME TIME? Same question for the SF and Berkeley shelters. I am willing to bet the cats and dogs far outnumbered the chickens. Should we stop keeping cats and dogs too? Should cats and dogs be outlawed?
2. "Rats and raccoons appear out of nowhere."
Nah...they were there the entire time, trust me, you just didn't notice them before.
3. "They get diseases with odd names, like pasty butt and the fowl plague. "
Yes, well humans get the swine flu and diarrhea. We should outlaw ourselves next!!
4. "Even in the best of circumstances, chickens die at alarming rates."
Been to KFC lately?

5. I still get more than I give.
Yes as long as THIS continues she will keep trying, because the most important thing in life is to get more than you give....if you give more than you get, you have failed in life completely. So charities and children need to be outlawed as well.
6. Its a fad.
This one made me laugh out loud. Chickens were first domesticated approximately 8,000 years ago...another 8,000 years this "fad" will be over.

7. "During the worst of it, Mr. Frye said, the roosters woke him up 13 times in one month."
GASP! 13 times in one month?!? My neighbor's dog woke me up 7 times LAST NIGHT, big whoop! We're back to outlawing Fido again.
I could go on and on and on....but I digress.
