Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Pics
Couldn't resist getting into the fray..... pics of some my first ever hatch of lavenders/splits. About 4 weeks old.

Out of the 13 I put into lockdown I had two that fully developed and never peeped and then two more that peeped but died before hatching but the 9 others hatched without problems. This was my first time hatching so I thought it was normal especially since they were shipped eggs?????

Sooo, the total for my hatch Tuesday/Wednesday is 7 Ameraucanas (5 Lavs, 2 splits) and 1 BLRW. As requested, here are some fluffy butt pictures!

(Not an Ameraucana) Hahaha....

My solo BLRW, my son wants to name her Alone-a......
Soo adorable!

Mark that fully black Split there (zip ties or vet wrap, something) - it might be based on E/E - better color for using for improving Lavender! Also to see if the solid black feet mean "girl"...

Pretty ones, thank you for sharing.

Loving the fluffy butts!!! Everyone's got gorgeous babies.

Donna, I believe you're right...it wasn't bleeding at all, and we decided it was time for it to go this morning. We smelled something horrid coming from the area of the bator and realized it was the little one we'd "patched" last night. Hubby further eggtopsied to see where development arrested - looks like the fella didn't make it past almost a week ago.

I'm not going to eggtopsy anymore unless the eggs are mostly clear. I DID see a tiny bit of rocking from 5 eggs earlier today when I went to peek!!!

We have also had 9/12 self-blue OEGB hatch. The other three were still viable, but the hens were no longer broody, running around with nine little ones to teach how to forage, drink, etc. probably is a full-time deal. So I put the other three in lockdown in another bator (hovabator, cheapie) in hopes that those three hatch as well. The littlest hen had laid a few eggs later than the time the older hen started brooding, so I think these are the three that are behind schedule a bit. Going to watch them for a few days.

While out today getting more bedding and PDZ for the coop cleaning I have to do shortly, my husband spotted an indigo bunting - a young male - sitting on the side of the road dangerously close to traffic. He immediately pulled over and got out, and rescued the little guy. He apparently flew into a car, and has a broken wing and foot. Hubby taped his foot up, made him a small box with a perch and we put wild bird feed and a small dish of water in there with him - so we're nursing a wild bird back to health, too.

I have totally named my hubby the bird whisperer. LOL

Here's a photo of one of the OEGB babies that hatched yesterday:

And here's the hubby with his "bird in the hand" today:

I have an extra cockerel that I hatched this spring if anyone is looking. I'm in Northwest Indiana. He's about 12 weeks old now.

I have 2 that are like identical twins. I'd love to hear any opinions/critiques on him because I'm brand new to the breed and have no idea what to look for.

We've got TWO BABIES!!!

Splits by the look of them, must have hatched overnight because they were mostly dry and fluffed this morning around 9:15 when I got woke up by a squalling 12-year-old, announcing the hatch.
Two more eggs are chirping, pipped, and one is really actively rockin n' rollin.

I set them in the afternoon/early evening exactly 21 days ago, so I'm thinking these are my early birds. How long should I give the rest after these next two zip out? I know Jersey Giants can take up to 25 days to fully zip a hatch...so I don't know about the Ameraucanas' time table. Humidity is sitting about 70% and temp is holding at 99.5-99.7 in the Brinsea.

From what I can tell, he looks really good. His tail, saddle, and hackle feathers look to be really smooth and well-formed for his age. I'm in east/central KY and if you don't find a good home for your extra, I can probably meet you halfway to give him a good home here. I'm lucky that I have just a couple of neighbors, and they all have chickens too or just love to hear roosters.

Edited to ask - are his legs green? It may be the flash or the reflective green of the grass, but his legs look green.

I went out to check because I remember admiring some pretty green legs, and wanted to make sure those were on my EE and not this guy!

His legs are not green, they're slate.

Thanks for the offer to give him a good home.

We now have 4 Splits and one Lav, and another egg is pipping as we speak. Another is moving around a bit and chirping, but no star crack yet.

(The one with the reddish color on his back is still a tiny bit wet, but cuddling nicely with the other two under the lamp.)

(A lav with another split that had just zipped moments before I took this picture. The egg directly behind the lav is the one starting to pip, and the one directly next to the rear of the new split is the one moving a bit and making noise.)
