I know! Is there anything to chickens maturing faster the later in the summer they are born?
That's a pullet IMO.. and no they don't mature faster when "born" later.. maybe the opposite even.. If it were a cockerel and I don't think so.. it's a VERY slow maturing late bloomer.

EXCEPT.. maturity and laying are not the same thing.. Regardless of light.. a bird will mature at it's OWN individual genetic rate.. regardless of season hatched. However light does effect laying hormone.. increasing light more likely to bring the laying on.. decreasing light.. the laying is coming on a little slower and slower paced.

I literally just set Lavender Ameraucana egg in my bator last night.

I'm not even second guessing.. I truly see that being pullet... the size of wattles with the lack of male saddles.. But despite being confident in my assessment.. I certainly do make mistakes.. and usually learn from them.

My secondary thought.. if you're still questioning.. it's female. Males act and look much different early on.. usually leaving us no questions. So still questioning.. usually pullet.. :celebrate

Thank you all! I too think it’s just a pink comb pullet. I’m keeping it either way. I just can’t help myself from trying to guess the sex every single time. Haha
This one has been the hardest!
also thanks for all the info Eggslighted4life!
Learned a few things today :)

Guess the breed or gender.. is one of my favorite games! :highfive:

Sometimes they are challenging due to flock antics or weird growth messing the saddle feathers up.. but it's fun for me to look at clues and try to solve mysteries that aren't critical to my survival. :p

Plus a chance to hone skill..

Consider adding your general location to your profile if you're able.. as it may help folks make the best suggestion possible at a glance in the future, relative to medical or supply, even weather type related stuff. Wouldn't surprise me if throw us trophy points when we do that, lol! My nerdy WAY over thinking brain just thought of that last part. :)
