Lavender Crele

Here's my small Bunch; we've got Buster, we've got Bugsie,we've got our only hen for now, Shiva and we've got Popeye.
Popeye was an assisted hatch. Reason why he's called Popeye is because he lay on one side stuck to his egg for quite a bit, before he finally absorbed it and loosened himself. I didn't want to wash /rinse him off the egg because he still was absorbing his yolk sac at that time. So early on we noticed that he favored that eye quite a bit and had it closed for a few days and slowly he would open it until you couldn't tell he had an issue with it. He seems to be blind in that eye,but he's a trooper and other than that issue,he's a cockerel through and through.
I will make an effort to take some close-up pictures to show how the colors are changing on the older ones. Shiva is developing some nice light salmon shades around her breast and lower hackles.

They also have a little brother that was hatched the same time we received some chicks from McMurray,so he is runnin' with his friends in the McMurray gang. I'll post some pics of him and some better pics of Bugsie and Popeye.

Little teeny eggs. Not sure where all these little eggs are coming from. 4 pullets are 3-weeks younger than the two oldest. Some of the little sisters must be trying to keep up with their older siblings?? The large egg is a normal 2 oz egg - put there just for size reference.

Because recipes expect 2 oz eggs, that size (large) is my preference. With the tinier eggs, you can keep your baking -- recipe use accurate by remembering that an egg is about 1/4 Cup. Some of thee eggs are banty size. One thing I don't understand is the darker shell. Perhaps the other Cinnamon Queen who has been a slacker has begun to lay tiny-eggs? Dunno.
Usually post molt the eggs are larger. Haven't gotten two Cinnamon Queen eggs on the same day for ages.
ETA the tinted egg in the lower left corner is Egg 1 from the previous pict, at 1.5 oz. You can see a LOT of the subsequent eggs are MUCH smaller.

Nearly lost my favorite pullet today. Breaks my heart how hot it is outside. Tomorrow heat index is expected 111-degrees. Much of the country is in heat warnings.

She is on the left right next to the fence in this photo.
Rooster has varied color on his neck hackles because he's in molt.

At last, I hauled a limb in from the woods and tied it up for their access. The on on the limb is showing her pale salmon colored breast=plumage in this pict.

These females are so alike that I can only tell my favorite because of her leg band, and the two adults by seeing their legs are less yellow because they have been laying longer (They are still a bit heavier and have bigger combs than their daughters). Having cookie-cutter chickens is a good thing in a flock, from what I hear.

Found the favorite pullet in front of the nesting box seemingly unable to move and panting like crazy. She was on a pullet egg -- and squawked like a broody hen when I went to take her out of the house and put her on the ground -- dipped her feet in a water dish for a bit and then set her down.

I'm fearful about tomorrow's heat. Plans to make a run to a gas station for bags of ice, and to turn on a sprinkler in their run.
