Hi y’all, I did something super stupid this week and lost 3/4 baby chicks. I let them outside for some sunshine, with water and good, but I guess it got hotter than I thought and they overheated. I’m beside myself, but one lone chick made it. I’ve been keeping her inside for the last three days to nurse her back to health. Question is, since she’s a lone chicken, do I wait longer to put her in with the larger flock ( I’ve intregrated before but never a lone bird) and how do you deal with loneliness until then? Finally- any guesses in is this is a pullet it cockerel? I’m so hoping she is a pullet, because given all that she has gone through I don’t want to have to rehome!

It is best to intergrate more than one but if it’s only one then you should wait till it’s the same size as the rest of the flock.

Can you arrange a pen next to the rest of the flock? That would help him/her get to know the other birds, and feel less lonely while growing up. I don't know when to actually introduce them--but since you take care of them every day, it may become obvious to you when the time is right.

Sorry, no idea on gender at present!
