I got chicks again, after a 6 year break. I'm now going through the worry about losing the percentage game and having a roo.
I got day old chicks from the feed store. All are supposed to be hens. There's that 90% sex "guarantee" from the hatchery.
I am most concerned about my lavender orpington and my blue rock.
These chicks came in on 3/18, so they are about 9-10 days. Neither have tail feathers as far as I can see. (I'd read boys develop tail feathers later).
I have a partridge rock, whom concerns me too, I got at the same time, but she'd come in on 3/15, so she'd be 12-13 days old. Also, I have a French black copper marans, from 3/22, she'd be about 6 days old.
Lavender Orpington is the gray one in the purple circle, Blue Rock is the one in the blue circle.
Do any of you guys have any thoughts or predictions, reassurance?
I'm guessing that it's too early to tell and I'm just going to have to worry for a couple months. Our county's rules are that you cannot have a roo if neighbors complain. So, I'm a bit worried and fretting about this, not sure what my plan would be if there's a roo, other than hope nobody notices.
