Lavender Orpington Thread

Pics
Hi,
I just bought a dozen lavender orpington chicks and when we picked them up they looked like a dirty yellow.  Now the feathers are coming in and they look yellow.  Is this normal??  The people we bought them from seemed really great.  The photos of chicks I see online are mostly grey, now I'm worried these are going to be yellow.  I'm very new to this breed.  Did this happen because they didn't breed back in the black? (I'm googling everything.)   I still want to keep these darling birds, I'm just wondering if I should try breeding back in a black in the future.  Thanks for any help you can give me.
As I understand it lavender is soposed to breed true. You breed back to black to help with type. I could be wrong

Your baby chicks should be looking somewhat like this This is one of our first babies ever raised! Hope this helps you. This one is about 10 days old!

My chicks don't look like that:( I'm sad. I had a gorgeous pair that I had bought when they were 4 or 5 months old and this winter my rooster was killed by something. So I have my lonely hen and decided to buy some chicks. My husband went to pick them up for me and brought them home and they are yellow! I so badly wanted them to look like Katherine, my hen. FYI, my rooster that died was William. Nobody around here has Lavenders. I guess I'll keep looking. I've tried buying hatching eggs online and none hatched. USPS handled them too rough, so I'd like to stay away from mailing eggs. Thanks so much for your input.

The first two is a lavender orpington. I ordered 10 of those and it's hard to see in the photo, but the wings are coming in yellow. Then they gave me some blues, and two black splash orps. The last two is the blue. At least that's what I was told. I still love them, I just wish they looked more grey.

If ever you decide you want to try to hatch again, we have had good successes in shipping eggs and have reported hatches. We ship a bit different than many people. This is how we ship eggs..... (The customer decides what they want marked on the package). We put fragile, but will add more based on what the buyer wants! We also have a 72 hour heat pack that we ordered especially to go with our eggs.) https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-garry-farm-how-our-eggs-are-wrapped-packed-and-shipped But maybe you will find someone near you with Lavender Orpingtons!

And please Do not cross your Lavender Orpington with a blue Orpington as you will not be getting that pure lavender color you want. (Just saying that in case someone local might suggest that as a way to get Lavender Split) With a black yes, but not a blue.... Have a blessed day! Praying you find yourself a rooster or chicks or eggs!!! Nancy

Wow, that's amazing. The eggs I ordered were squeazed into a box, so the carton was touching on both sides of the box and they were each wrapped in a napkin. Yours are much better!!! My box was dropped and actually smashed on one end when it arrived:( I wasn't mad, I knew it was a risk when I ordered. Do you have a website with photos and pricing? I'd be interested in looking at it. Thanks for your information.
