Why are your babies dying? How old are they and do you have them under warm lights? They need 95 degrees until they start feathering out and you can drop it 5 degrees per week until they get fully feathered. Are they on medicated feed to prevent cocci? One of the reasons chicks die can be due to cocci which is a protozoa parasite. You could try putting them on corid. I put a few ml in a quart of water. I raise mine either on a wire cage so the poop can go through or you can use pine shavings and change them every day.

The babies that died did so over a weeks time. The ones that are alive look great and are growing and getting there feathers. I have a heat light into them and yes they are on medicated chick starter.
I have 16 baby ducks that I hatched out of my incubator , they are in another pen but I haven't lost a one. They are all really healthy. I also have some x chicks in another pen and haven't lost one. I have them all in an enclosed building but in separate pens. I told my husband it is because I want these so bad. Ha, Ha. I just hope I don't lose anymore.

Hmmm.... This looks like poor breeding if you ask me. If I were you I would not even think about buying any more chicks from that person.... Especially if she/he is not answering your phone calls.

Yeah, I think this could be from poor breeding or something... Their parents must of had to have something, like a disease and it passed down to the egg.... Did you get to see the parent birds? Were they living in poor conditions?

You have a good point. I did not get to see the parents or the living conditions. I have been looking for some lavenders and when I saw the ad I called but she was selling for another person. Now that I look back this was stupid of me. LOL I have some eggs in the incubator that I ordered but after candling and taking out the ones that were not fertile I found one egg that looked good, the others have the egg sac at the top and all the way down one side. I don't know what is going to happen with these. I will know next week.

Sorry to hear about your babies. It sounds like you did everything right so maybe just genetics. If you see any chicks standing around like a vulture..stooped shoulders and hunched kinda down and not eating or drinking very much...definitely treat with Corid right away.

Baby ducks are so cute. Last year on Easter morning one of our muscovy ducks hatched 13 babies! It sure was fun to see those for Easter.
She is broody on some more eggs now. I think she only has 8 eggs in there this time.

Flgarden, do you sell muscovy eggs? I have a drake and would like to hatch some eggs so he has company!
