Lavender Orpington Thread

I'm curious if anyone knows of good quality chicks available in MN or a place that will ship for a reasonable price. I got my chicks locally, but I would like to breed in the future with chickens from another stock =)

So cool that you showed these- I know people get uptight about pures, but you are not claiming pure, and they are so pretty. I saw an English poultry book and they showed blue barred chickens and I wanted to make mine!

I think this is a Lavender orpington/blue Isbar roo he will be my new roo.

Hi There,
your chickie is adorable. I have both lav orps and blue and splash Isbars. Can you tell me why you would cross those two breeds? what are the benefits? im just curious and learning. My birds are too young to be laying yet....but trying to come up with a breeding plan. I also have splash Ameracuanas. I do need to cut back my numbers soon and decide what and how many hens and roos to keep of these three breeds....

I had a blue isbar roo, and a lavender orpington hen. what is nice about the mix is lavenders are supposed to breed true-(not saying it is a pure, just color wise) and blue isbars have pretty mint green eggs, hoping the combo will produce a pretty green egg. one more benefit, isbars are lighter weight (med sized) will eat less. These are not for the buying public just me.

Hi! If I may join you all please! We just got 3 10 day old lavender orps yesterday. They are so sweet and fluffy! Has anyone been able to figure out a way to sex them so young? I can post a better picture tomorrow.

Well, all 3 look the same to me. I put small zip ties onttheir legs so I can id them. They all have a pretty equal amount of wing feathers, cute little tail feathers, and pin feathers on their backs. Maybe you can help me though! They were unsexed from the breeder, it was the only option so I doubt she purposely was trying to get rid of roos... At least I hope not!
