Lavender Orpington Thread

O
I've only seen lav orps with the standard dark gray legs & beak.  The white legs & beaks are for the white & buff orps.  Black orps always have the black legs & beaks.  They would look silly otherwise.  Since lavs come from black orps (with the recessive lav genes), they should have the darker legs & beak.  I've seen someone mix buff & lavs as an experiment, and those chicks looked lav with the lighter skin that you mentioned. However they were neither buff nor lav - just sold as pretty barnyard mixes. Although they've been around a while, the lav orps are considered a newer color in America & not yet accepted into the SOP books yet.

Okay, thank you. I read where someone said that Lav Orps should have white legs, beaks, etc. just like the buffs.

I'm new here (have 14 5-mo lavenders) but that first pic screams roo to me. I think I'm seeing the beginning of sickle feathers.

Hi, I have a spare Isabel Lavender lace young rooster ( Keithsorps) I will forward pictures soon. Interested in swap for a Gold Lace Cochin rooster.

My Lavender Cuckoos have horn colored beaks, white legs and light eyes. It has something to do with the cuckoo coloring though. Honestly, I prefer the dark eyes of the solid Lavenders. They have such beautiful faces.

Here's my mystery chick:

700

She was supposed to be a mauve if female & a cuckoo if male. She had kind of a cinnamon chick fluff, but the feathers grew in white. The egg did not come from my flock, but no one can figure out why she has this color. I like the very dark eyes & bluish gray legs I also like her body shape & outgoing personality. She's 8 wks old & I think she's going to be staying here.

Ooooh, I like her alot! :love

Seems like white would be much easier, doesn't it? But with chickens, white is a wild card! Apparently one of the parents had some recessive white somewhere in their background.

ETA - and I'm not really big on white birds, but she's lovely. The dark legs are awesome.

She's a pure english orp but a strange mix of Blue, Splash, Black, Choc, & Cuckoo. I never would have expected a white chick, but neither did anyone else. Perhaps I'll put her with my Lavs to add one more color to see what hatches out. LOL I also do not care for white hens b/c of hawks, but this pullet is so different. It's those big black eyes!
