She's a pure english orp but a strange mix of Blue, Splash, Black, Choc, & Cuckoo. I never would have expected a white chick, but neither did anyone else. Perhaps I'll put her with my Lavs to add one more color to see what hatches out. LOL I also do not care for white hens b/c of hawks, but this pullet is so different. It's those big black eyes!
Interesting. I thought my pale chick was simply a rare mistake. Since I got her as an egg, I really don't know the exact genetics involved. I found it strange that her chick fluff looked mauve.I have a (poorly bred) Blue Orpington pullet that looks a lot like yours, color wise. She is snowy white with the faintest blue tinge in her hackle feathers. She will go in with my Lavender Cuckoo rooster just because there is room in their coop, but I was curious what kind of babies she'll produce with him. I think the color may be interesting but her type is very poor. Any offspring will just be egg layers or dinner here, and not part of my breeding program, unless she surprises me.
We needed sexlinked eggs for DD's experiment. The person who owns the parents said the mom was a cuckoo orp (choc I think) & the dad was a mauve orp. Although the chick is not what we expected, I actually like her quite a bit. We sold the other "normal" chicks after DD's project was completed, because we don't have the room to keep them all. We held on to this mystery chick to she how she turns out. Her adopted mom is the alpha hen & this chick lives a very privileged life. She's 8wks old & still sleeps with mom & dad on the top roost. She's also always the 1st in line to grab the best treats. In the afternoon snooze under the tree, I often spot her sleeping on top of the roo like she did as a chick. Silly chickens! With that coloring as a chick, she may carry the lavender gene. I seem to remember my chick being yellow, but she was part of a half dozen chicks I bought that turned out to be anything but Orpingtons.

Mine have always been funny to watch run, even full grown and filled out. They lumber like a big awkward turkey almost.![]()
