The standard calls for a steele blue color, the lav gene can & does have different shading. Having said that I would go with the color seen on Bren's birds. But you might want to keep the darer one's for breeding. They could be f1 gen birds and will pass on the color went they breed.

There's a really good discussion about this on the classroom at the Coop. http://www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=88090#Post88090
Most of the discussion is about smooth feathered birds, but it sure is helpful! I have two lav cochin boys with crappy feathers, but I wonder if it doesn't show as prominantly in Silkies because of the nature of their feathers to begin with?

I just bought a pair from Bren so I should have some at least by this summer. I have a post with their pictures, but of course they are young and have alot of filling out to do.
I have one that is very very light and one that is a little darker. I am putting my Showgirl from AHappyChick with my Lavenders. Going to work on the Porcelain color.

I just got some chicks from Bren to breed into my lines here for a dose of new blood.

The one's from Bren were the Quad that she sold on eggbid the beginning of last month. I finally have a cockeral here that is about 5 months so that I can put him with my lav pullets.
I was just looking at a lav pullet on eggbid. Would you guys say that she is too light or just right? Will splitting a light lav to blue, then those back to each other help the color appear more steel blue?
Photos really do not do that bird justice. She is a beautiful bird. It's hard to see in the picture, well actually you can't see it at all, but she has some darker coloring throughout her body. I wish I could explain the coloring, but I'm not sure how. I guess the best way I can explain is that she is a light lav and has flecks of darker lav.
I would not breed her to a Blue at all. I would breed her to another lav bird.
If you breed 2 light lav together, will the chicks be even lighter? Like splash to splash eventually fades out the coloring, so it's better to have splash to blue...
