Is it my imagination... I read the eggbid auction, and the photos are NOT the bird that is for sale, but "representative of the quality you could gain"??? That seems odd... why not post pictures of the actual bird?
Did I read that right?

The bird in the pic that won best AOV is not for sale, just a bird that's out of the same line. The bird in the other two pics is the actual bird.

krista, too bad we live so far apart or I would split an order with you. I know you have other lav birds. do you know if they breed true or is it like blue where you get splash etc?
unlike blue, self-blue (lavender) does breed true. So if you breed lav x lav then you get lav. I can't wait to start my lav projects
. I just can't use what I have on the silkies, would take WAY too much culling to even get close to what I would be happy with. I talked to dh and he said no to the chicks anyway. I have too many projects to work with this year, BUT on the other hand if anyone offers to trade eggs with me......

Your pullet looks EXACTLY like my Lilac! She died when she was 18 weeks old though. Did your pullet have a vaulted skull when she hatched?
She is the one on the left side as a chick. I wouldnt consider that vaulted but she did turn out nice. Since I lost the others, would it be best to breed her to White to get more Lavenders? I also have a Black and a Red Roo.
edited to say:My daughter wanted to breed her to red and make purple (blue and red make purple)
To get lavender a chick hs to inherit it from both parents. If only one is lavender, you can only get a lavender chick if the non-lavender parent is carrying a hidden lavender gene. Chances of hitting on it randomly are pretty low. If you breed her to the black and then breed any sons back to her you may get some that are lavender.
Breeding her to the red or white would give you unpredictable results.
I was told that a pure black is the best color base for breeding for lavenders... is that true? I've managed to get that one brass ring with a dark blue hen that was hiding the lavender gene, but I'd like to do more with the blacks.
