That would only work if blue and lavender were the same gene. They are separate genes, and they are not linked (which can cause a bird to inherit both genes together).

. So, to clarify, if someone says they have lav splash it is just a splash that is split to lav? I have a headache today so I need to beat things in a bit harder...

Thanks, but I DEFINITELY wasn't planning on using anything but black with my lavs. I just noticed that lavender splash term is getting thrown about lately but if someone didn't know it sounds like the "splash" on the bird is actually lavender and not blue. I didn't think this possible and wanted to make sure. I don't need more confusion in my breeding program

That is a pretty good description, but I would not say blue is replaced by lavender. Perhaps Tim can chime in on what is going on at a cellular level, but from a general genetics mechancis level, both lavender and blue dilute black pigment. (Lavender also dilutes red pigment; blue does not.) Perhaps it can be looked at as adding both chlorine and oxygen bleach to a load of laundry. (Ignoring that oxygen bleach doesn't affect colours much--maybe someone has a better "bleaching agent" to suggest, lol)
